Vol. 26 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILMASTULLA DRAINAGE WORKS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the amount of money expended on the Kilmastulla drainage work in the year 1927, the number of men employed, and the number of gangs at work during that period; and whether he is aware that dissatisfaction is prevalent amongst the people concerned regarding the work already done.

Mr. BOURKE

The total expenditure on the Kilmastulla Drainage District to 30th September, 1928, in respect of works of reconstruction carried out under the Drainage Maintenance Act, 1924, amounted to £5,700 and of that amount £1,664 was expended during the year 1927-28.

During the year 1926 the average number of men employed varied from 70 to 120, but in 1927 labour was scarce, and the average number of men was about 30. Sometimes they worked in one gang, and at other times in two gangs.

Complaints have been received from a few persons as to the manner in which the work has been done, but I am satisfied that the complaints made were without foundation.
