Vol. 26 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INSURANCE AGAINST MOTOR RISKS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, in view of the increasing use of motor vehicles and cycles, and the consequent risk of accidents, he will consider the introduction of proposals for legislation making it compulsory for owners and for drivers and riders of such machines to cover by adequate insurance against risk of damage caused by them to life and property.

The question of compulsory insurance against third party and passenger risks forms a part of the general question of the control and regulation of road traffic and will be dealt with when decisions are being taken on the Report of the InterDepartmental Committee on Road Traffic.

Will the Minister say if he has yet received the Report of the Inter-Departmental Committee that was set up to deal with questions of this kind?

Yes, the Report is with the printers, and I hope it will be available in a week or two.

Are we to understand that the Report of the Committee will be circulated to Deputies?

It will be printed and circulated.
