Vol. 26 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INTOXICATING LIQUOR ACT.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that District Justices differ in their interpretations of certain sections of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927, relating to the reduction of licences; whether, in view of this uncertainty, steps will be taken to postpone the application of the Act in this respect, pending a definite decision; and whether licence holders wishing to retire will be allowed to do so.

I am aware that there are differences of opinion amongst Justices of the District Court as to the interpretation of certain sections of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927. This uncertainty will in due course be resolved in the usual way through the Superior Courts. In the meantime the procedure outlined in Part IV. of the Act must be followed in regard to those cases in which reference orders have been made.
