Vol. 26 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNTENANTED LAND IN KERRY.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he can state (a) the acreage of untenanted land in Kerry; and (b) the number of acres of untenanted land under tillage in the County of Kerry for the year 1927.

The area of the untenanted land which may come within the provisions of the Land Act, 1923-27, cannot be stated, but up to the present the Land Commission has acquired in County Kerry under these Acts an area of 2,780 acres, prices have been fixed or agreed on for a further 1,122 acres, prices have been offered for lands gazetted in respect of 2,392 acres, and a further area of 4,296 acres has been inspected and preliminary investigations are being made in respect of 13,800 acres, making a total of 24,390 acres.

In addition to the area acquired, or in course of acquisition under the Land Act, 1923, mentioned above an area of over 4,000 acres of untenanted land on estates in County Kerry acquired under the prior Land Purchase Acts, has been divided since 1st April, 1923.

The Agricultural Statistics published by the Department of Industry and Commerce give such information as is available regarding the area under tillage on lands situate in County Kerry and the other counties.
