Vol. 26 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LYNCH-BLOSSE ESTATE (MAYO).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission are taking over, on the 1st November next, the lands known as the O'Connor-lease portion of the Lynch-Blosse Estate, Balla, Co. Mayo, comprising the congested village of Ardboley, and a large grazing ranch in the townland of Poolavaddy; and whether he will state when the pressing needs of the small landholders on this estate will be satisfied by giving them economic holdings.

I have already informed the Deputy and also Deputy Nally, who has been pressing me in the matter, that the Land Commission are aware of the position referred to by the Deputy, and they are taking the necessary steps in the matter.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if the land will be acquired by the 1st November?

I cannot say that.

Can the Minister give any definite date?

Not at present.

What does the Parliamentary Secretary mean by saying that part of these lands are being taken over for the relief of congestion? He said that in answer to a question I put in July last.

We are only buying a portion of the land. It means literally what I said.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what portion?

That is a separate question.
