Vol. 26 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUALGAISI CIGIRI SGOL.

D'fhiafruigh

den Aire Oideachais an fíor go mbíonn dualgaisí oifigeamhla le coimhlíona ag cigirí sgol gach Satharn agus Domhnach, agus go bhfuil ortha tuarisg do thabhairt ar an obair a dheinid gach Domhnach; an fíor gur gádh dhóibh cead fé leith fhagháil má's mian leo dul go dtí feis, aeridheacht, cluithche peile, no a leithéid, lasmuigh d'á gceanntracha féin; agus más fíor an ndéanfaidh an tAire ath-sgrúdú ar na riaghlacha so agus an tsaoirse chéadhna a thabhairt do chigiri sgol agus atá cheana ag oifigigh eile an Stáit.

An inspector is required to furnish weekly a journal indicating what work he has done during the week and what reports on schools visited he is furnishing. These reports and the journal should be in the office on Monday morning. Inspectors have duties to perform on Saturday. The Department does not expect them to work on Sunday. No permission of the kind referred to in the question is necessary.

Is it not a fact that these regulations with regard to travel ling inspectors were made in the early days of the National Board when it was considered, perhaps, necessary to restrict inspectors to their own areas, in view of the fact that they had limited transport facilities? Now, in the days of motor transport, does the Minister consider that it is necessary to confine these absolutely to their own areas on Sundays? I would ask the Minister to reconsider that matter.

I do not think the Deputy quite grasped the last portion of the answer, which states:—"No permission of the kind referred to in the question is necessary."
