Vol. 27 No. 4

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VESTING OF A KERRY ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the number of estates in the Saorstát vested since 23rd November, 1927, and whether he will state the cause of the delay in vesting the estate of F.G. Williams, Co. Kerry (Rec. No. S. 2082); whether he is aware that in this estate there are evicted holdings, held by the tenants on the eleven months system under a lease by another landlord, who is willing to surrender these holdings, and also untenanted lands held by the tenants on the eleven months system; whether in view of these facts he will have this estate vested immediately, and have this matter of evicted holdings and untenanted lands settled to the satisfaction of the tenants on the estate.

During the period from 23rd November, 1927, to 16th November, 1928, 530 estates comprising 3,780 holdings have been vested under the Land Act, 1923, and 43,252 acres of untenanted land have been vested in the Land Commission during the same period.

As regards the Estate of F. Greswold Williams, Co. Kerry, the prescribed schedules, maps, etc., have been lodged by the owners to enable the land to be vested under the Act. The Commissioners are now dealing with the estate, but before the lands can be vested the estate will have to be visited by a Land Commission Surveyor and Inspector, and statutory notices must be issued, and it is not possible at this stage to say when the sale may be completed. It will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

The question of the retention of tenanted lands with a view to resumption and division amongst uneconomic holders and also the question of the acquisition of the grazing lands will be considered by the Commissioners.
