Vol. 27 No. 4

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DELAY IN DIVISION OF MAYO LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether any further delay is likely to take place in the division of the lands of George Cuffe, Killasser, Swinford, Co. Mayo, and if he will also state whether a portion of these lands have already been disposed of to a private individual, and whether, in view of the serious congestion existing in the surrounding townlands, the Minister will state the reasons for disposing of these lands in this manner.

The division of the lands surrendered by George Cuffe in exchange for a holding provided for him in County Meath was held up pending transfer of the lands from him to the Land Commission. The transfer has recently been completed, and the division of the lands will now be proceeded with as soon as possible.

The sale of the house occupied by him to a local purchaser for cash, together with the allotment of a small area of accommodation land enabled the exchange to be carried out.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary state what procedure was adopted in the sale of the house and lands adjoining to the local individual concerned? Was it by private sale or otherwise?

I could not say what the procedure was that was adopted in this particular case, but it is usual in such cases to advertise the sale of these things.
