Vol. 27 No. 4

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INCOME OF SAORSTAT CITIZENS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state what was the total income of the citizens of the Free State in 1923-24, 1924-25, and what proportion of that income was paid in Local and Central taxation.

There are no figures available showing the total income of citizens of the Saorstát, but the total income which comes under the purview of the Revenue Department, whether accruing to Saorstát residents or to persons not resident in the Saorstát in so far as they derive income from Saorstát sources, and the tax produced by such income in the years 1923-24 and 1924-25 will be found in Tables 85 and 80 in the Annual Reports of the Revenue Department for the years 1924-25 and 1925-26 respectively, which have already been published.

Particulars of the Revenue collected and paid into the Exchequer will be found in the Finance Accounts of Saorstát Eireann, and the total of the sums raised by local taxation are published in the Returns of Local Taxation for the years 1921 to 1926 issued by the Department of Local Government.

Could the Minister give us an estimate of the income asked for?

I do not think so.
