Vol. 28 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grievances of Minorities.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state the line of policy, if any, being pursued by the Saorstát representative at Geneva in connection with the proposal of the German Delegation that the League of Nations establish a Permanent Commission to examine the grievances of minorities.

The proposal mentioned in the question was discussed by the Council of the League of Nations at its last meeting, and is to be further considered by a Committee of the Council. The Irish Free State is not a member of the Council of the League, and it was not, therefore, possible to pursue any particular policy in relation to the proposal.

Will the Minister inform the House whether it is his intention to issue to any instructions to the Saorstát representative at Geneva to use his influence with members of the Council to secure that this proposal will be adopted?

Does the Minister not think it advisable to do so?

It is not the proper method.

Is it not?

You would rather go in and crawl.
