Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Untenanted Land.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the amounts of the untenanted land and "resumed" holdings acquired by the Land Commission in the congested districts in each year since 1923, and the total amount of such lands which it is proposed to acquire under Section 24 of the Land Act, 1923.

The areas of untenanted lands and "resumed" holdings acquired by the Land Commission under the Land Acts, 1923-7 in the Congested Districts counties in each year since 1923 are as follows:

During year 1924

555 acres.

During year 1925

28,868 acres.

During year 1926

41,939 acres.

During year 1927

35,266 acres.

During year 1928

27,464 acres.

The area of untenanted land in the Congested Districts counties which had been gazetted under Section 24 of the Land Act, 1923, up to the 31st December, 1928, but not yet vested in the Land Commission was 75,909 acres.
