Vol. 28 No. 10

Written Answers. - Kiltimagh Applicant for Old Age Pension.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that Martin Reilly was awarded an old age pension by the Kiltimagh Old Age Pensions Sub-Committee on the 9th February, 1929; that the pensions officer appealed against this decision, and whether he will consider the appeal (No. 3672) and confirm the findings of the Committee, in view of the fact that affidavits were lodged showing that the applicant was next to a member of the family who has been in receipt of the old age pension for over two years.

An appeal is at present under consideration in this case arising out of a claim for an old age pension. The Kiltimagh Pension Sub-Committee allowed a pension of ten shillings a week on the 6th February, 1929. The evidence of age so far furnished cannot be regarded as sufficient to warrant the allowance of a pension. The ground stated in the latter portion of the question would not justify the conclusion that the claimant is over 70 years of age. It would, however, be useful if the claimant in the absence of his own baptismal certificate could show proof of the age of his next younger brother, producing, at the same time, sworn evidence as to the difference in their ages.
