asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that in the recent allocation of moneys for relief works in West Cork no provision for the execution of works was made in the rural districts of Dunmanway. Clonakilty and Schull; that several needy areas in the Skibbereen rural district were overlooked, the total allocation for that area being £300 to Cape Clear, while only a sum of £100 is allotted to Bantry rural district; and whether he will have a detailed examination made of conditions in the foregoing areas, with a view to making a substantial allocation for necessary works, having regard to the extreme poverty prevailing in many of the foregoing areas.

No money has been provided for expenditure by the Land Commission on relief works during the current year. The powers of the Land Commission to expend money are confined to expenditure necessary for the improvement of estates being sold under the Land Purchase Acts, and in the exercise of these powers they have sanctioned the following expenditures on improvement works:—
