Vol. 28 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Timoleague Pensioner's Claim.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state on what grounds a decision has been arrived at that Patrick Cleary, an old age pensioner of Cloughgriffin, Timoleague, Co. Cork, is not entitled to a higher pension than six shillings per week.

Having regard to all the circumstances in this case, it was not clear that means, as calculated for pension purposes, were less than £26 5s. 0d. a year. An increase in the pension of six shillings already allowed did not therefore appear to be warranted.

Does the Minister consider that that is an answer to the question on the paper? I asked the Minister if he would say on what grounds the decision was arrived at, and the Minister makes a general statement which conveys nothing.

On the ground of means.

Will the Minister say what means this man has?

I do not know if the Deputy wants to have the personal affairs of this individual discussed here, but I can send him particulars of the means of the applicant in question.

That is on condition that I will be at liberty to raise the matter afterwards, because I think there is a very important issue involved.
