Vol. 28 No. 14

Public Business. - Land Bill, 1929—First Stage.

I move for leave to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the Land Act, 1923, in so far as it relates to the fixing of the appointed day in the case of land to which Section 24 of the Land Act, 1923, relates.

Leave granted.

When does the Deputy ask to have the Second Stage taken?

On the 10th April.

Speaking from recollection, I think that an arrangement was arrived at that Private Members' business would not be taken in the first two weeks after the resumption, as these two weeks were to be given to the Estimates.

Quite a number of very important motions to be taken in Private Members' time appear on the Order Paper. If Private Members' time is to be taken by the Government in the first two weeks after the resumption, when are we going to get time to consider these motions?

I think the arrangement was that, as is usual, during the week in which the Budget is introduced Private Members' business will not be taken. In the first two weeks, that is to say, the weeks beginning the 10th and 17th April, Estimates will be the principal Government business, but during these weeks Private Members' time will not be affected. I think that was the arrangement.

I am satisfied.

Bill ordered for Second Reading on the 10th April.
