Vol. 29 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuam Town Clerkship.

asked the President whether he is aware that in the advertisement for a Town Clerk for Tuam the age limits were fixed at 21-45 years, and that despite that stipulation the Local Appointments Commission considered the application of a candidate who is at least fifteen years over the maximum age fixed, and whether the acceptance of such application was sanctioned by him.

The age limits quoted in the question were those named in the advertisements for the position, but, following the practice in similar cases, an extension of the maximum age limit in favour of officials with previous service under local authorities, was prescribed in the particulars of appointment which the advertisement stated could be obtained on request to the Local Appointments Commission and which were sent to all applicants. In accordance with these provisions the application of one of the candidates who is over 45 was accepted. The acceptance of applications for local appointments is a matter for the Local Appointments Commissioners.
