Vol. 30 No. 6

Private Deputies Business. - Oireachtas (Payment of Members) (No. 2) Bill, 1929.

Would the Minister move that the order for the Oireachtas (Payment of Members) (No. 2) Bill be discharged and that the Bill be set down for a later date?

Perhaps you could give the House some information as to what has happened about the Committee that was appointed to consider this matter? As a member of the Committee I have never got notice to attend a meeting. If the Committee is not to sit I propose that we proceed with the Second Reading of the Bill at the earliest possible date.

Wait until after the by-election.

If the Committee is not to sit I suggest that the matter be put down for Private Members' time next week.

I understand that there was some difficulty about calling the first meeting of the Committee but that it will be called for next week. I take it that it is not the intention to proceed with the Bill until the Committee has reported.

If the Committee is going to sit, certainly it is not. I move that the order be discharged and be set down again for next Wednesday week.

Ordered accordingly.

The Dáil adjourned at 1.35 p.m.
