Vol. 30 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state the reasons for the delay in dealing with the claim to unemployment insurance benefit of John Lee (Serial No. 1290) Kildare Branch Office, and whether he will expedite payment of benefit.

Mr. Bourke (for the Minister for Industry and Commerce)

A claim to unemployment benefit made by John Lee on the 16th January was referred by the insurance officer to the Court of Referees for consideration and recommendation. Having considered the case, the court recommended that the claim should be disallowed on the ground that the claimant was not available for work. With this recommendation the insurance officer agreed, and the claim accordingly remains disallowed.

Subsequently, in April last, Mr. Lee claimed a refund of contributions under Section 2, sub-section (5), of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1926. This claim was allowed, and Mr. Lee has received the sum of £8 2s. 7d. in respect thereof.
