Vol. 30 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of P.O. Learners.

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state when the Civil Service Commissioners propose to hold an oral examination in Irish for those male and female learners in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs whose appointments are held up pending the holding of this examination, and whether, in view of the fact that these learners are otherwise qualified for appointment, he will arrange to expedite the holding of the examination.

Owing to the fact that the Post Office learners referred to in the question are distributed amongst a considerable number of places in the provinces, difficulty has been experienced in securing the necessary examiners for carrying out the test in oral Irish. The matter has been receiving attention, and it is hoped to overtake the arrears of examination at an early date. The holding of the examinations at each of the centres concerned will be expedited so far as possible.
