Vol. 30 No. 14

Totalisator Bill, 1929—Money Resolution. - In Committee on Finance.

I move:—

"Go bhfuil sé oiriúnach a údarú go n-íocfar amach as airgead a sholáthróidh an tOireachtas aon chostaisí fé n-a raghfar chun aon Acht do chur in éifeacht a rithfar sa tSiosón so chun socrú do dhéanamh chun suimitheoirí do rialáil agus do stiúra, agus chun na gCoimisinéirí Ioncuim do bhunú agus d'oibriú suimitheoirí, agus i gcóir nithe eile a bhaineas leis na rudaí sin.

That it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys to be provided by the Oireachtas of any expenses incurred in carrying into effect any Act of the present Session to make provision for the regulation and control of totalisators, and for the setting up and working of totalisators by the Revenue Commissioners, and for other matters connected therewith."

As it is intended to give a licence for the totalisator and not to work it directly, there will be no expenses in connection with it except those involved in supervising its working. If it were to happen that the intended licence should not be granted, that the agreement should fall, then, of course, the Revenue Commissioners would be driven to set up totalisators, considerable expense would be involved, and the matter would have to come before the House on an Estimate.
