Vol. 31 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The League of Nations.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he is yet in a position to lay on the Table a report of the proceedings of the assembly of the League of Nations held last year, as promised on March 6th last.

In reply to a question on this subject on the 6th March, I stated that a report on the proceedings of the last Assembly, which was then in course of preparation, would be placed in the Library for the information of Deputies. Twelve copies of the Report were subsequently placed in the Library. The Oireachtas Library is kept supplied by the Department of External Affairs with a very large number of publications covering the entire scope of the League's work. Of these publications, seven are issued monthly, one quarterly, and a considerable number appear at irregular intervals. Those who keep in touch with the League's work should accordingly expect to find our Report in the Library, but if there is a real desire that formal notification should be given on the Agenda Paper when Reports on the League are placed at the disposal of Deputies, I shall consider the most suitable time and best procedure for effecting this.

Mr. O'Connell

Would the Minister consider whether it would not be advisable to have important reports like this formally laid upon the Table, so that they would be brought directly to the attention of Deputies? A number of documents go into the library and it is impossible to keep track of them all.
