Vol. 31 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Judicial Tenancies.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state the number of non-judicial tenancies vested under the 1923 Land Act and the number not yet vested, and the number of such tenancies on which the standard purchase annuity has been fixed (a) by agreement, (b) by the Judicial Commissioner; and, further, if he will state the approximate average percentage reductions made on the rents under (a) and (b) above.

Up to the 31st March, 1929, the total number of holdings returned on schedules of particulars lodged by landlords with the Land Commission under Section 40 of the Land Act, 1923, as subject to non-judicial rents, was 35,758. Of these 2,385 had been vested up to that date and 7,697 had been included in provisional lists of lands to be vested.

Of the total of 35,758 non-judicial tenancies, the standard purchase annuities have been (a) agreed upon between the landlords and tenants in 9,258 cases, the average reduction being 33.4 per cent. of the rent, and (b) have been fixed by the Land Commission in 3,088 cases, the average reduction being 37.9 per cent. of the rent. Of the total annuities agreed upon or fixed, the average reduction of the rent was 35.1 per cent.
