Vol. 31 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land for Kildare Congests.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he can state what progress has been made by the Land Commission in acquiring the lands in the Rathangan-Allen area, Co. Kildare (especially that portion known as the Murphy-Minor estate), in respect of which a list was furnished to the Department, with the names of twenty-seven congest applicants, on the 1st April, 1925, and whether he can expedite the acquisition of these lands.

The Land Commission are making inquiries as regards the lands referred to, a large portion of which appears to be held subject to Land Purchase annuities.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary do all he can to have the lands on the Murphy-Minor estate acquired, because there is grave dissatisfaction at the delay on the part of the Land Commission in acquiring this ranch, as there are many deserving congests in the neighbourhood who are completely shut out from making a living owing to the land being carried on as a ranch?

The report as to congestion in North Kildare has recently been obtained, and steps will be taken to acquire land for the purpose of relieving congestion.

After four years.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he can state when the lands, containing 178 acres, on the estate of the late Mr. Robert Murry, in the townland of Nurney, Co. Kildare, will be available for allotment amongst the local congests.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of the lands referred to, and an offer has been made by the Land Commission which has not been accepted by the owner. Pending determination of the price the Land Commission are not in a position to say when the lands may be allotted.
