Vol. 32 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portnablagh (Co. Donegal) Harbour.

asked the Minister for Finance to state whether an application for a grant for the construction and repair of Portnablagh Harbour, Co. Donegal, has been considered by his Department.

Certain proposals have been put before me involving (1) new construction, and (2) repair of existing works at Portnablagh. The provision available for harbour construction work is necessarily limited, and on the case presented I was unable to agree to make a grant towards the erection of a new breakwater. I am advised that a certain amount of repair work is urgently required to preserve the existing sea wall, but that is a matter for the County Council which is charged with the responsibility of maintenance.

Is the Minister aware that the Department of Lands and Fisheries some time ago promised to contribute towards the development of Portnablagh Harbour if the Donegal County Council agreed to contribute a sum? Is he aware that the Donegal County Council has now agreed to contribute one-third?

I am not aware of that.
