Vol. 32 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions to Dublin Rate-Collectors.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has been requested by the Dublin City Commissioners to give his consent to the awarding of pensions to Rate-Collectors Gracey and Conlon, now in the employment of the Dublin Municipal Council; and, if so, whether he has given his consent to the granting of such pensions, and what is the amount of pension that is awarded to each of these rate-collectors.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The matter is under consideration.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, can he state if there is any truth in the report which appeared in the Press to the effect that these collectors have become redundant as a result of the Shannon Board taking over the Dublin electricity plant?

The whole question arises in connection with the changes made consequent on the passage of the electricity undertaking to the Electricity Supply Board.

Can the Minister say if he is prepared to protect the interests of the Dublin ratepayers who have lost, not only the Dublin plant, but also the profits that would be made from it, and who are now going to be saddled with the pensions of officials who have become redundant as a result of the change made?

That is a separate question.

I am prepared to consider the matter that is before me.

Could the Minister tell us when he expects to be able to come to a decision on this matter?
