Vol. 32 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repayment of Dáil Loan in South Kerry.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state how many applications for repayment of the Dáil Loan, 1919-20, have been received from South Kerry (Killorglin, Caherciveen, to Kenmare) by his Department, and how many of these were favourably considered up to 31st December, 1928, and how many have been favourably considered since 1st January, 1929.

The records in my Department are not kept in such a manner as would enable me to furnish the Deputy with the precise information he requires without the expenditure of a considerable amount of time and labour on the part of the staff.

I am, however, in a position to give him certain information regarding the former Parliamentary constituency of South Kerry. During the period in which the loan was floated particulars of only 307 subscribers were furnished to the Dáil Department of Finance, and these were duly entered in the Register. Since that date 191 names have been added to the Register in respect of this constituency, making a total of 498. Of these 386 have been repaid to date.

The claims of those persons whose names have not yet been entered in the Register are being investigated, but the rate of progress is necessarily somewhat slow, as great difficulty is being experienced in obtaining reliable lists of subscribers or satisfactory evidence of the transmission of the various amounts subscribed to Headquarters. It would assist considerably if all documentary evidence in the possession of local collectors and others connected with the loan in South Kerry were forwarded to my Department.
