Vol. 32 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loans for Housing in Congested Areas.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the bad housing conditions prevailing in the Congested Districts, he will introduce proposals for legislation enabling small farmers in these areas to procure loans at a low rate of interest, for the improvement of their houses.

Proposals for legislation for the improvement of housing conditions in the Gaeltacht, including provision for the making of loans for the erection of dwellinghouses and the improvement of existing dwellings, are at present in course of preparation, and will be submitted to the Oireachtas at a very early date. Although the Gaeltacht does not comprise the entire Congested Districts area, it is hoped, if the proposed legislation is passed into law, thereby to relieve very substantially housing conditions in the Congested Districts.
