Vol. 32 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advisory Committee on Wireless Broadcasting.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state how many meetings of the Advisory Committee on Wireless Broadcasting have been held since January 1st, 1929, together with the number of recommendations made by this Committee to the Minister during that period and the number of cases in which these recommendations have been acted upon.

Eight meetings of the Broadcasting Advisory Committee have been held since the 1st of January last. Fifteen recommendations were formally made by the Committee. Of these, 10 have been carried out; 4 have been accepted and action to give effect to them is being taken; and one was accepted but was found impracticable to carry out. The number of formal recommendations made does not fully reflect the work of the Committee as many suggestions and criticisms are considered in the course of general discussion of programmes.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what happens to the informal suggestions, and is there any action taken in regard to them?

The Deputy must be aware that this is an advisory and not a managing committee. Attention is paid to formal and informal suggestions, but all these suggestions are not necessarily acted upon.
