asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what steps he is taking, if any, to prevent the singling of the railway line from Mullingar to Clonsilla.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Singling of Railway Line.
Mr. Boland (for Seosamh O Cinnéide)
Mr. Hogan
I have no power to prevent the singling of this line, and, on the information available to me, would not feel justified in exercising the power if I had it.
Arising out of the reply, I would like to ask the Minister what useful purpose the Railway Tribunal served? I remember a deputation waiting on the Minister for Industry and Commerce in connection with this matter more than six months ago. The Minister promised that the Railway Tribunal would look into this case. The company proceeded then to start the singling of the line. It was two or three months before the Tribunal sat to see what could be done.
Mr. Hogan
It would be better to put that to the Minister for Industry and Commerce, but, as far as I know, the Minister has no control over the Railway Tribunal in this matter. It would be better to put down a separate question.
