Vol. 32 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Unemployment Claim.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that Christopher Melia, Passlands, Monasterevan, lodged a claim to unemployment insurance benefit on the 11th October last at Kildare branch office, and has not yet received any benefit; that he was employed as fireman on a steam dredger on the River Barrow Drainage Works since the 2nd of April, and has six months' contributions to his credit, and whether he will expedite payment.

Mr. Hogan

The claim of Christopher Melia, of Passlands, Monasterevan, has had to be held up for investigation in consequence of conflicting statements made by the claimant himself at two different times regarding his last period of employment and previous period of unemployment. Every effort will be made to complete the necessary inquiries at an early date. If the result of the investigation is satisfactory, there will be no delay in paying the claimant any benefit to which he may be entitled.
