Vol. 32 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - The Potato Crop-Drying Plant.

asked the Minister for Agriculture to state whether he is aware that there are established and operating in Germany, washing, cutting and drying plants for raw potatoes and general agricultural produce; whether, with a view of enabling the potato-growers in the Cooley area, Co. Louth, to dispose of the very large quantities of potatoes grown in that area and for which there is at present no market, the Minister will consider the question of erecting similar plant in the said area.

I am aware that there are in operation in Germany plants of the nature mentioned, and I am considering, in the light of reports which I arranged should be furnished to the Department of Agriculture, whether the erection of such a plant is an undertaking which could be recommended to potato growers in Cooley or elsewhere in this country.
