Vol. 34 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Representation on Electricity Supply Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he received the resolution passed by the Council of the Cork Incorporated Chamber of Commerce and Shipping protesting against the tendency to replace business men of proved efficiency by civil servants on the Electricity Supply Board, and, as representing the principal users of Shannon power in Cork area, demanding permanent representation for the Cork area on the Board, and whether he is prepared to fall in with the views expressed.

I received a copy of this resolution. It was clearly based on a misapprehension of the facts, since only one member of the Board was a civil servant before appointment. It is not intended to introduce local representation as the basis for the constitution of the Board, to whose duties and functions such a basis would not be appropriate.
