Vol. 34 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Buchanan Estate (Co. Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state why the road on the Buchanan Estate, Co. Mayo, which was marked out three years ago has not been proceeded with, and if he is aware that the tenants on this estate have already a right of way over this land, and, further, if he is aware that the road referred to is badly needed by the tenants concerned.

The Land Commission is aware that the occupiers of two houses on this estate have a right of way for specific purposes over Mr. Buchanan's lands and thence on his private avenue to the public road, as well as a road from the public road to their dwellings.

No steps towards the making of a road connecting with this avenue were taken by the Land Commission, nor was such a line of road marked out as suggested, and it is not proposed to carry out this work as the cost would be prohibitive having regard to the number of tenants to benefit.

Consideration of the question of road accommodation will be given when the scheme of re-arrangement of the holdings on the portion of this estate purchased by the (late) Congested Districts Board is accepted by the tenants.
