Vol. 34 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Going Estate, Tipperary.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what is the present position as regards the Ballynonty Ranch (Going Estate), Co. Tipperary; whether it is a fact that portions of it have been sold by a Mr. Worthington, who held it as a grazier; and whether the remainder is now held by a Mr. William P. Hanly, Lanespark, and what are the conditions under which the sales were made, and what is the title under which Mr. Hanly holds the remainder; what control, if any, has the Land Commission over this estate, and is it their intention to acquire it for distribution amongst uneconomic holders.

In the schedules of particulars lodged in the Land Commission by the owners of the Going Estate, now estate of Bena Cobden and others, Mr. William P. Hanly is shown as tenant of 152 acres of the lands of Ballinunty. This estate is at present being dealt with under the purchase provisions of the Land Act, 1923, and the question of retaining and resuming this holding will be considered in due course. Mr. Hanly would appear to be the owner of other parts of the lands of Ballinunty—viz., 48 acres held under lease, and 159 acres in fee, some of which were purchased by him from the Going Estate. Inquiry is at present being made regarding these lands. It is understood that the tenanted holding referred to above was formerly in the occupation of Mr. Worthington and that his interest was purchased by Mr. Hanly, but if the Deputy refers to recent sales by Mr. Worthington, the Land Commission have no information on the subject, but the matter has been noted for investigation in connection with the present inquiry regarding the Ballinunty lands.
