Vol. 34 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bent Planting in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he can state if it is the intention of the Irish Land Commission to carry out a scheme of bent planting this year in Doaghmore, Co. Donegal (Leitrim Estate).

Owing to the difficulty at present of obtaining plants the Land Commission are not in a position at the moment to undertake bent planting at Doaghmore. The sandy area at Doaghmore has been fenced off and a caretaker appointed to prevent trespass and destruction of the existing bent.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the bent plant has been offered free by a tenant convenient to the estate?

No. We have endeavoured to secure bent for the purposes of planting, but we have failed to secure any plant that would be of use to us.
