Vol. 34 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat and Flour Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department is regularly supplied with information as to the quantities of milling wheat and of flour available within the Saorstát for use by the millers and for sale to the people; whether he can state the quantities of these goods which were so available on the 1st November, 1929; the 1st January, 1930, and the 1st March, 1930; and the periods for which at the normal rate of consumption, such quantities would be sufficient to maintain the population.

Particulars as to the stocks of milling wheat and flour are not furnished at regular intervals to my Department. The quantities available on the specific dates mentioned in the question and the period within which they would normally be consumed cannot, therefore, be stated.

Does the Department not get any information as to the stocks of wheat and flour available in the country at any period?

That is a completely different question and a very wrong deduction.
