Vol. 34 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Greystones Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that in Greystones the road leading from Church Road past the Electric Light Station to Ardeen and the Golf Club, and the roads in the Burnaby Estate, have not been taken over by the Wicklow County Council and maintained as a county-at-large charge; and whether he will take steps to compel the County Council to take over these roads.

Inquiries have been made into this matter. I am informed that the roads referred to have not been taken over by the Wicklow County Council.

It would seem that the first-mentioned road is not made up as a road for traffic, and is not open to vehicular traffic, as I understand a wall is built across the entrance to the road. It is very doubtful that the County Council could legally take it over.

As regards the roads in the Burnaby Estate, it has been ascertained that the County Council have already taken over such roads as are used by the general public proceeding from one part of the county to the other. If the roads mentioned by the Deputy are of this character, I will see what further steps can be taken in the matter.
