Vol. 34 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dáil Eireann Internal Loan.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the reason for delaying payment to James Murphy, Tervoe, Clarina, Co. Limerick, who subscribed £1 to Dáil Eireann Internal Loan (1919-1920).

My Department cannot trace the receipt of any application from Mr. James Murphy. of Tervoe, Clarina, Co. Limerick, for repayment in respect of a subscription by him to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan (1919-1920).

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received repeated applications for refund of his subscription to Dáil Eireann Loan from Michael Bolger, Ballywilliam, New Ross, and whether he can now authorise payment of same.

Only one application for repayment in respect of a sum of £1, stated to have been subscribed by him to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, 1919-20, can be traced as having been received from Mr. Michael Bolger, of Ballywilliam, New Ross. As this application was not received until after the expiration of the time limit for making applications fixed by me in accordance with Section 4 (1) of the Dáil Eireann Loans and Funds Act, 1924, I regret that I am unable to authorise repayment to Mr. Bolger.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a decision has yet been arrived at to repay to Mr. Peter Walsh, of Brookhill, Claremorris, County Mayo, the £20 subscribed by him to the Dáil Loan (Internal) 1919-20, and regarding the payment of which he supplied to the Department over two years ago, evidence in the form of his paid cheque and a declaration from the person to whom payment was made.

There is an important discrepancy in the evidence furnished by Mr. Walsh in support of his application for repayment in respect of a sum of £20 stated to have been subscribed by him to the Dáil Eireann (Internal) Loan, 1919-20.

On the 28th March, 1928, a communication was addressed to Mr. Walsh asking him to furnish an explanation of the discrepancy referred to. No reply has since been received from Mr. Walsh, and until a reply is received a decision regarding repayment cannot be come to.
