Vol. 34 No. 6

Written Answers. - Blake and French Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Kilnock, Lenamore and Tavanagh, on the Blake and French Estates; that the poor law valuations of over forty tenants in these townlands are under £3 each; and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken to acquire the grazing farm held by Mrs. Charles French at Culliane, Ballindine (Rush Estate), which is the only land available in the vicinity for the purpose of providing economic holdings for those tenants.

The Land Commission are aware of the congestion existing on the lands of Kilknock, Lenamore and Tawnagh referred to by the Deputy. The question of the acquisition of the lands held by Mrs. Charles French at Cuillane, which have been purchased under the Land Purchase Acts and are subject to a land purchase annuity, has been considered and it is not the present intention of the Land Commission to acquire them.
