Vol. 34 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of Land—Longford and Westmeath.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state all the estates in Counties Longford and Westmeath which are not yet vested under the Land Act, 1923; their acreage and the total number of tenants on them.

It appears from the Statistical Returns of the Land Commission that in County Longford the number of estates of tenanted land in respect of which maps and schedules of particulars have been lodged with the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1923, and which have not yet been vested is 49, comprising 8,530 acres and representing 416 tenants, but 12 of these estates, comprising an area of 4,205 acres and representing 114 tenants, have been provisionally gazetted preparatory to vesting, and will be vested as soon as any objections to provisional lists, etc., have been disposed of, and such outstanding matters as the provision of turbary, drainage and embankments, retention and re-arrangement of holdings, etc., have been settled.

In County Westmeath the corresponding figures of tenanted land not yet vested are 125 estates, comprising 42,836 acres and representing 1,296 tenants, of which 25 estates, comprising 13,303 acres and representing 350 tenants, have been provisionally gazetted.
