Vol. 34 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Acquired Land.

(Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what number of landowners have not yet been compensated for land acquired by the Shannon Scheme; and if he will state the reason for delay in not compensating those parties whose lands are now taken over for a considerable time.

In connection with the civil construction works of the Shannon Scheme the number of occupiers from whom land has been acquired in the Counties Limerick, Clare and Tipperary, apart from public bodies, and to whom compensation has not yet been paid is thirty-two (32). In twelve of these cases, the exact area has not yet been determined and cannot be determined until the fencing of the work has been completed in approximately six weeks' time. In two cases, the notices of acquisition were not issued until recently. In one case the question of water supply remains to be settled. In one case, the settlement agreed upon was subsequently repudiated. In sixteen cases, offers were made and refused and it will be necessary for these cases to go to arbitration in due course if they are not settled.
