Vol. 34 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware of the acute congestion existing in the parish of Killasser, Swinford, Co. Mayo, and when a scheme for the division amongst land congests of the Cuffe Farm, Killasser, will be put into operation.

A scheme for the division of the lands surrendered by Mr. George Cuffe, in County Mayo, is in course of preparation and will be completed as expeditiously as possible.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if a scheme for the division of the Grallagh Farm, Evans Estate, Bohola, Co. Mayo, amongst the local congests is being considered by the Land Commission.

A scheme for the division of the untenanted lands on the Margaret Evans Estate, Co. Mayo. has been approved and has been sent to the local inspector to put the allottees into possession.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if it is proposed to take any action to relieve the acute congestion and rundale system existing in the Colonel Jordan Estate, Bohola, Co. Mayo, and if in the event of a delay in providing land to which tenants could be migrated from the Jordan Estate, the Land Commission will consider a scheme of dividing amongst the tenants for reclamation portion of the 150 acres of bog attached to this estate.

This estate is pending for sale under the Land Act, 1923, but has not yet been reached in its turn to be dealt with. The Land Commission will consider what means can be adopted to relieve the congestion existing on the Jordan Estate at Bohola, County Mayo, when they are dealing with the estate in its turn. The question of the acquisition of the bog on the estate for division amongst the tenants will also be considered at the same time.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware of the acute congestion existing in the Reddy Estate, Bohola, County Mayo, and if he will state what action is being taken by the Land Commission in connection with the matter.

Will the Deputy be good enough to repeat his question next Wednesday?

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Irish Land Commission have taken over the lands of Caraun-More, Caraun-Beg, Creevagh Island, and Gortnabuka, in the parish of Killimoredaly, Ashtown Estate, Co. Galway; if so, when it is proposed to divide these lands, and whether the claims of the congested tenants and landless men in the townlands of Brackloon, Cloonchacahill and Knockroe will receive favourable consideration.

Possession of the following lands on the estate of Lord Ashtown, Co. Galway, has been obtained by the Land Commission:—

Island

53a.

Gortnaboha

171a.

Caraunmore

353a.

The lands of Caraun-Beg, containing 245a., and Creevagh, containing 167a., in the occupation of Wm. Chas. McCully as yearly tenant, have been vested in the Land Commission and retained, and it is the intention to apply to the Judicial Commissioner for an order for their resumption. It is not at present possible to say when the division of these lands will be completed, but in the preparation of the scheme of division due consideration will be given to the cases of persons coming within the provisions of Section 31 of the Land Act of 1923.

I would remind the Parliamentary Secretary that we have already had a similar answer to this.

Not quite the same, as the Deputy will find if he looks up that answer.

It was practically the same answer.

Very substantial progress has been made since the Deputy got the last answer.
