Vol. 34 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Delgany Police Raid.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the residence of Christopher Cullen, Mrs. Cullen and Miss Cullen, Delgany, were raided on the 25th of April by members of the Detective Division and Gárda; whether arms, ammunition or seditious documents were found; whether the raid took place in consequence of information supplied to the police authorities; whether, if so, he has any reason to believe that the informant was actuated by malicious intentions or business jealousy; and whether the Minister will take steps to see that a person acting on such motives will not escape responsibility for causing trouble and serious annoyance to law-abiding people.

The residence in question was searched by a party of police on the date stated in pursuance of a search order for firearms issued under the Firearms Act, 1925. No arms, ammunition or seditious documents were found. The search took place as a result of information supplied to the police. The suggestion that the information was given maliciously or on account of business jealousy is unfounded. On the contrary, I am satisfied that the information was given in good faith. The last part of the question does not, therefore, arise.
