Vol. 35 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Baldoyle Sanitation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware of the unsatisfactory sanitary arrangements at present existing in the majority of houses in Baldoyle, owing to the inadequate water supply; and whether he proposes to have anything done to remedy this state of affairs.

The question of the provision of a water supply which should remedy the situation referred to by the Deputy is one for the sanitary authority, the North Dublin Rural District Council. It is understood that they have applied to the Commissioner for Howth Urban District for the requisite supply. The Commissioner is unable at present to accede to the Council's request until the Vartry supply to the Hill of Howth is first dealt with. This work is in progress. Pending its completion in September, 1930, and a satisfactory pressure being secured, it will not be possible to consider the tapping of the water-main for the benefit of Baldoyle.

Is the Minister satisfied that there is no danger of an epidemic in the district owing to the conditions prevailing? My information is that 99 per cent. of the houses in the district are not properly supplied, that there is a main sewer running through the principal street, but there is no water supply.

Personally, of course, I have no information.
