Vol. 35 No. 2

In Committee on Finance. - Vote No. 25—Supplementary Agricultural Grant.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £299,011 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1931, chun an Deontas Talmhaíochta do mhéadú (Uimh. 35 de 1925).

That a sum not exceeding £299,011 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1931, for the increase of the Agricultural Grant (No. 35 of 1925).

I do not, of course, rise to oppose this grant, but I would like, because it has a bearing on the Vote, to ask the Minister if he can give us any idea as to when the Commission on Derating is likely to report. If he has any information on that matter we might be able to form some idea as to whether this Vote is likely to disappear soon from the Estimates.

For the purpose of answering such a question, I may say that the Chairman of the Derating Commission was asked whether he could give us an approximate date for the presentation of the report, but he was unable to do so. He is very anxious to press forward with the work and have the report available as soon as possible. In the early stages the Commission was delayed by the time taken up in getting information asked for by different members. I heard from members of the Commission some months ago that it would report by the end of the summer, but I do not know whether that still holds or not.

Question put and agreed to.
