Vol. 35 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petition for Construction of Pier.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is now in a position to favourably consider the petition sent him by twenty-five local farmers, praying for the construction of a small pier for the purpose of landing sand at Rossmacowen, Castletownbere, Co. Cork.

The consideration of this application and others for the provision of piers and landing facilities has been deferred pending the examination of the Report of the Ports and Harbours Tribunal. When this Report is available and has been examined the application will be considered in the light of any general recommendations of the Committee. In the meantime, I am having a survey and report made in the matter of this application.

Will the Minister take into consideration the fact that this sand is used for manure in that particular area, which does not happen in any other part of the country, as these people are cut off from getting artificial manure? They are cut away from civilisation to a certain extent and this is the only available manure they have.
