Vol. 35 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Government and Free State Tariffs.

asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been drawn to a statement made in the British House of Commons by the Secretary of State for India to the effect that the British Government had approached the Government of India "as they would the Government of any Dominion," and put before them the injuries that an increased tariff on cotton by India would inflict on British manufacturers, and whether he could say if the British Government had at any time made any representations to the Free State Government with regard to the effect on British industry of tariffs imposed by the Free State.

My attention had not previously been drawn to the statement referred to in the first part of the Deputy's question. No representations of the kind indicated by the Deputy have at any time been received by the Saorstát Government.
