Vol. 35 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mahon Estate (Co. Clare).

(An Clár) asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether the Land Commission has yet acquired the lands of Corbally and Ballyhickey, in the Mahon Estate, County Clare; and whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire all these lands or only a portion of them.

As the Deputy was informed on the 6th November last, the Land Commission has in hands proceedings for the acquisition of 60a. 1r. 3p. of the Mahon Estate in the townland of Ballyhickey, and 332a. 2r. 12p. in the townland of Corbally. Portion of the lands of the estate in Corbally amounting to 155 acres have been excluded from the proceedings following objections received and investigated by the Land Commission.

Mr. Hogan

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say when it was decided to exclude a certain portion of the land?

I could not give the actual date.

Mr. Hogan

Is he aware that on 6th November, 1929, he told me that the entire estate was going to be taken over?

No. I think in my reply I gave the Deputy to understand that negotiations were in progress.

Mr. Hogan

In column 715, Vol. 32, of the 6th/11/'29 it is distinetly stated that the entire estate was going to be acquired.

The owner, of course, has always the right to lodge an objection to the acquisition proceedings. That right is given him under the Land Acts. He did lodge an objection, and, as a result of investigation of the objection lodged by the owner, a certain portion of the land was excluded.

Mr. Hogan

On what date was it decided to exclude portion of the land and what pressure was brought to bear on the Commission?

If the Deputy wants the date I can give it if he puts down another question. I cannot give it at the moment.

Mr. Hogan

I shall put down another question.
