Vol. 35 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - French Trawlers and Kerry Fisheries.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that a French trawler destroyed on the 16th November, 1928, nets, the property of Jeremiah Mahony, Ardcost, Cahereiveen, Co. Kerry; and, if so, if he will state what action he has taken in the matter.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. At the time of the occurrence when the French fishing boat reached Valentia Harbour, the captain was approached by the local police, and, with the aid of an interpreter, the position was discussed. It then became clear that there was no question of a criminal offence. The particulars of his boat and his crew were, however, taken and given to Jeremiah Mahony in order that he might be able to take such proceedings as he might be advised. There is nothing further that my Department could do in the matter.
