Vol. 36 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Eireann Loans.

asked the Minister for Finance when he proposes to pay the balances due to subscribers to (a) the First National Loan of the Republic of Ireland, (b) the Second External Loan of the Republic of Ireland.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the First and Second External Loans floated in the United States. I can give no indication of any date in this matter, inasmuch as the Receivers appointed by the American Courts have not yet, so far as I am aware, completed their task, and as the Register and other documents and records relating to the Loan are under the control of the American Courts.

Is the Minister aware that the moneys have been repaid, that the balance has been distributed, and if he wishes to avail of the live addresses the Receivers have, steps should be taken immediately to see about the repayment of the balance?

I am not aware of the exact position that has been reached, but in any case until the documents and all records have been returned to us we cannot take any steps.
